A Message to all members about the Independent Deloitte Review of TWU Training, Education & Industrial Rights Fund
Last year I wrote to you in regards to the media commentary and speculation surrounding the Transport Workers Union’s Training, Education & Industrial Rights Fund.
Since 2003, 3,101 TWU delegates and members have been trained by this fund to improve their industrial rights, health and safety when working in Australia’s most dangerous industry.
That’s 16,780 hours of valuable face-to-face safety training delivered to TWU Members where and when they need it.
So the fund’s good work can continue with the full confidence of TWU members and their families, your Union commissioned international independent auditors Deloitte to review the fund’s operation.
Deloitte found that the conduct of the Fund was not improper but there was a need for its’ administration to be improved.
That’s why the rank & file Committee of Management immediately resolved to establish an independent company limited by guarantee to assume the functions of the Fund.
This year your Union is fighting for decent and fair pay rises in all transport sectors and the milk industry, for industrial legislation that works for working people, for tough chain of responsibility laws that hold transport clients for the deadlines they set and to stop the introduction of foreign labour into Australian transport.
I look forward to working with you in winning these important fights ahead.
Yours sincerely,
Tony Sheldon
State Secretary
