NOT INTERESTED-Joe Hockey refuses to meet with McArthur Express Owner-drivers
Joe Hockey has refused to meet with McArthur Express Owner-drivers to explain why he has not allowed for them to be covered under the General Employees Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS).
National Secretary of the Transport Workers’ Union Tony Sheldon said “when asked to meet the Owner-drivers of McArthur Express today Joe Hockey said NOT INTERESTED.
“Joe Hockey has turned his back on the hard working families of McArthur Express, he has walked away from his responsibility towards Owner-drivers and tried to pass the buck to the states. Let there be no confusion. Joe Hockey has the discretionary power to cover Owner-drivers under the GEERS scheme.
“His insistence that this is a problem for the NSW Government to deal with makes no sense. There over 70 Owner-drivers affected nationally. They are in QLD, SA, WA and VIC, as well as in NSW. This is clearly a Federal issue and it is up to the Federal Government to provide a resolution," said Tony Sheldon.
