MCARTHUR EXPRESS EMPLOYEES JUST LOOKING FOR ANSWERS
Hundreds of families have been left looking for answers after the sudden collapse of trucking company McArthur Express.
Transport Workers’ Union Senior Official Mark Crosdale said “Up to 700 employees have been left stranded. On Monday drivers arrived at the company gates to find them locked and many others were left stranded in the middle of runs, some in places as far flung as Adelaide.
“Many of the employees felt that the heavy presence of police and the riot squad at the McArthur site yesterday was out of proportion with any potential threat and that the police were heavy handed in their dealings with them.
“The working families of McArthur Express employees are looking for answers and just want a fair go.
“McArthur Express has been aggressively anti-union for many years. Regardless of the fact that very few of the McArthur Express Employees are members of the Union, the Transport Workers’ Union is happy to represent these working families,” said Mark Crosdale.
The Transport Workers’ Union is meting with the voluntary administrators this morning.
The Transport Workers’ Union will be holding a press conference at the Seven Hills McArthur Express site at 1.00pm today. Powers Road Seven Hills.
Senior Official Mark Crosdale and a number of Drivers are also available for comment.
