Transport Workers Union state secretary, Wayne
Forno, said the increased incidents aimed at armoured vans was causing
widespread concern for drivers throughout Sydney.
“Sooner or later a member of the public is going to get hurt as these
attacks become more brazen so it is urgent we come together now to find
a solution,” Mr Forno said.
“And I am not talking about just guards, the police and security
companies, this problem affects the whole retail economy including the
major customers like banks and retailers. We as an industry need to see
what we can do to make this vital part of our economy safer.
“We are currently conducting a survey of our members to gather data on
assaults and robberies and we hope to have the results of that survey
available over the next few weeks.
“This morning it has been reported that shots were fired and revolvers
taken. The time to act for the sake of the community is now,” Mr Forno
said.
