Federal Government to Introduce Landmark Road Safety Legislation New Tribunal to Establish and Maintain Safe Rates and Systems for Employees and Owner Drivers

The Transport Workers Union of Australia (TWU) today welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to introduce legislation in the final sitting week of Parliament to rectify the defective and dangerous system of truck driver remuneration across the country and to address the economic pressures that the major industry clients place on the industry.

The Transport Workers’ Union of NSW today called on Qantas to join them in a negotiation ‘lock down’ on behalf of Australian workers and passengers, after Fair Work Australia ruled this morning that the parties have 21 days to resolve the dispute.

Welcome to the Transport Workers' Union

2011 was a big year for our members. The TWU overcame some big hurdles, fought the good fight and came out on top. The last year has shown us what a strong and united union voice can achieve, and this unity and strength has helped us bring about our most courageous achievement of all: Safe Rates.
