TWU Delegates Conference 2005

Conference 2004

TWU State Secretary Tony Sheldon spoke to Delegates about the importance of organising and the success of the Chain of Responsibility campaign.

"Chain of Responsibilty has been delivered because of YOUR hard work. Transport workers and their families said 'we, as transport workers are sick and tired of being the bunnies killed on our roads' and they took action starting with a peaceful demonstration several years ago in Hyde Park, paying tribute to transport workers killed trying to deliver a decent wage for their families.

The campaign succeeded because transport workers remained orgainsed. One thing that will protect us, no matter what industrial relations system we are under, is US. Together, through strong workplace organisation we can achieve a fair go at work and protect our safety and our the futures of our kids and grandkids."

On 27th-28th October over 600 delegates took part in the 2005 delegates Conference.

Delegates heard from Guest speakers Jeff Farmer, Director of Organising, Teamsters Union; ACTU Secretary Greg Combet and were entertained by Peter Fitzimmons.

Importantly delegates were able to discuss the Federal Government's Industrial Relations Legislation and plan future organising strategies, as well as discuss Chain of Responsibility and listen to delegates' successful organising campaigns.
